All jewels

Faster than it grows

We want the result on the timeline of our impatience, not the timeline of the thing itself. The fitness, the skill, the healing, the trust — we want it now, and now, and now.

But most things that matter take shape the way a tree does: invisibly, then suddenly. For a long time it looks like nothing is happening. The work is going on underground, where you can't see it and don't get to feel rewarded for it.

The temptation is to quit during the invisible part, mistaking 'no visible progress' for 'no progress.' Stay. The unseen part is most of the work.

Today: pick one slow thing you're tempted to quit because it isn't showing results yet. Do today's small part anyway, without needing proof.

One practice for today

Choose one slow effort you're tempted to abandon for lack of visible results. Do today's small part anyway, trusting the unseen progress.

Make it daily — today’s jewel, with a practice fitted to your day.
