What your anger points to

Anger arrives loud and certain, and it always seems to be about the thing in front of you — the driver, the email, the person who let you down.

But anger is usually a messenger, not the message. Underneath it is almost always something quieter: a hurt, a fear, an expectation that went unmet. The anger is just the part loud enough to notice.

You don't have to act on the loud part. If you can ask what it's protecting, the heat often drops on its own — and you can deal with the real thing instead of the noise.

Today: the next time you feel anger rising, ask one question before you act — what is this actually about? Answer honestly, then respond to that.

One practice for today

When anger rises today, pause and ask what's underneath it — a hurt, a fear, an unmet expectation — and respond to that, not the heat.

Make it daily — today’s jewel, with a practice fitted to your day.
